LPC Validity

I would appreciate perceptions / comments/ opinions etc on the following from my learned colleagues.

First Officer is scheduled for upgrade to command.

Said F/O is sent to sim and does an LPC in the left seat, which he passes with flying colours.

Does that invalidate his previous LPC certificate ?

To fly again in the RHS should he do a RHS check in the sim in accordance with JARs or does his previous certificate, which would not expire for N months, still count?

According to my understanding, yes it does and he would need to another RH seat check to fly in that seat.
