Cap 371 (split Duty)

This question is for those of you having an understanding of CAP 371.

Consider the following scenario as listed below:-

A crew reported for duty at 2030Z; after a series of flights the aircraft has a mechanical problem after arriving in Miami Florida at 0400Z. Maintenance has advised the captain that the aircraft will be serviceable for a departure at 1030Z; crew will return to the airport at 0930Z.
Is it legal for the crew in the above situation to use split duty to return the aircraft to Tampa Florida?

How many flights have they done?

Actually it probably doesn't matter too much

On Duty 2030Z
Split Starts 0415Z
Split Ends 1015Z
Off Duty 1130Z

I have no idea how long Miami Tampa is so ive said 45 mins.

Total duty 15hours
Versus Max duty 3 sectors 11: 30 (based on local time of start)
Total split 6 hours so 3 hours back

Max Duty 14:30

You could use 30 mins discretion.

However....I have allowed the CAP standard of 30 mins for post and pre flight (ie 15 mins for each) your post suggests they may need longer than this.
I have also assumed the crew are fully aclimatised to Florida Local , and are doing 3 sectors. The amount of duty avaliable is limited by number of sectors and local time of start.

Complicated little problem isnt it.
