Sleeping radio!!

Can any one tell me what causes this problem?

I understand that the radio doesnt work properly but thats about it. What are the symptoms and what causes them to 'sleep?'

Anyone suffered this problem?

cheers in anticipation.

Thanks. At least it seems easily remedied by a quick ptt if it all seems quiet for too long.

Although i'm guessing you wont know its happened until either you suddenly have escorts, or you're expecting atc to speak.

Some years ago I was told that when you transmit the receiver is earthed so that it isn't overloaded by the the power of the transmission. If the relay to earth isn't broken when the TX is stopped you will not be able to RX. Pressing the PTT switch again normally clears the problem. Could a radio engineer comment?
