A321s in the wind

I work at Bristol Airport where we have a based First Choice A321. A few times now, latest time was today, its had to divert across the channel because the winds were too strong for it to land at Trumpton International. I’d be interested to hear why the A321 is affected by winds while other aircraft are not. I’ve been lead to believe it has something to do with the flaps.

Thanks

Hmm,

A pure guess here, but it could be that the crosswinds exceeded the limit for landing (21kts I think for the A321).

Perhaps it headed for an airport where they could approach "into" the wind?

The crosswind limit for A321 ...............

demonstrated for takeoff..29knots gusting up to 38knots

demonstrated for landing..33knots gusting up to 38knots

so I doubt it was that !!

However, there is a current OEB relating to A321's which requires a CONF 3 landing when significant CROSSWIND, or MOD. to SEV. Turbulence is anticipated, especially in ICING !

This procedure would require the approach speed to be increased, so increasing the landing distance required.

All this is corrected by new ELAC standards which are under design by Airbus, and should be fitted soon. We hope

Moley.
