Difference between FCPC and FMC

Do the computers in Boeing and Airbus go by different names? Are they called FMC/FCPC, (not talking about PFD/ND) or something? What is the major differences between them?

FMGC (Flight Management Guidance Computer) for Bus, and FMC (Flight Management Computer) for Boeing.

They both achieve roughly the same thing as implied by their names.

I personally find the FMC somewhat more user friendly, but that is probably because I've had far more exposure to that machine rather than only 2 years on the FMGC.

Both have advantages and disadvantages when compared to the other. Bit like the ongoing PC versus MAC argument I would imagine.

Anyway, back to my mince pies before I get another ticking off!

Happy Christmas

There are several computers in the 744, including a multifunction FMC (Flight Management Computer) and a Flight Control Computer (FCC) that controls the autopilot.

The CDU (Control Display Unit) that is the Pilots' interface to the FMC, as well as the various computers in the various aircraft, may be called different things and have slightly different modes of operation, but they all perform the same basic functions.
