PDA's and use on flight deck, or aviation in general...

Just wondering who uses a PDA (pocket pc such as iPAQ) -

what do you use it for and how useful is it?

what are some good applications?

do you use it for weather or notams ?

cheers

I have tried some Flight Comp programs and found them to be ok. I can't remember which ones but did a search on ask.co.uk.

I found it ok but is a bit of a pain the the AC as I tended to hit the wrong bits of the touch screen. Especially in the bumpy stuff.

Also the back light is so bright it kills your night vis.

I bought a Jeppesen flight comp. much better.

Don't know about the moving maps but I would guess that if they are like running the car ones you can't see them when the unit is mounted.

This is just my thoughts. I am sure there are some ardent followers out there.

Slightly O/T, as you will probably not call the pointed end of a glider a flight deck, nevertheless an iPAQ with a GPS and some software like Winpilot is probably a glider pilots's little helper, with its moving map, airspace alarms, landing areas within reach, etc ...
