Difference between simulators?

Could anyone please explain what the difference between a fixed base simulator and a full flight simulator is?

One sits on hydraulic jacks and bounces around..........

The other is firmly bolted to the floor...........

I'll let you work out which is which......

simulators..

Also...the full flight simulators can be operated as "fixed base" by simply not turning on the hydraulics. This is often used for some types of procedure training where motion is not required(such as preparing for flight / starting engines / shut down, ) and saves the company money.
So if you find yourself rostered to do "fixed base" sim training one day, and then "full flight" sim the next day..you will probably be using the same actual simulator .

Hi Gazeem
Not a silly question at all.
FBS simulators without visuals are often referred to as procedure trainers. Instrument flight procedures can be practised in these. Pretty dull though!
