Range Question - B772 -v- A330

Whilst checking out the other A330 question (and photos) I noticed that QF are claiming a record for the 17000km flown by VH-EBB (A330-201) from Toulouse to Melbourne, stating this is a record for a large twin. However, Boeing claim the same for the B772 Super Ranger that did Seattle to KL in 1997.

Are they classed as the same size aircraft for this record, or are QF making claims that are dubious?

According to the Great Circle Mapper, the distance SEA-KUL is 7017NM/12995KM whereas TLS-MEL is 9119NM/16888KM. I appreciate that neither of the flights were on a G/C track, but it gives a good indication of the distances involved.

1997 is a long time ago, perhaps Boeing has just "forgotten" to update the information?

Apart from Burt Rutan's Voyager, what is the longest non-refuelled flight ever?

Recognising, of course, that neither of these flights had any commercial pax on board, so mean nothing to travellers.

PS Did a 7:55 hour flight on a 737-400 and landed with 1.8tonnes - who cares - could only have done 5 hours (approx) with a full load of pax.

FFF,
"About" 1,000,000 give or take...Most of the "Apollo" missions
But apart from voyager, was it not the P2 prototype, "Truculent Turtle"?
