its like everything in this world, 'Its who you know not what you know' I can defintely speak from experience. IMHO having OATS CABAIR BAe on your C.V will least get your application that one step closer to the important people. Why would the airlines come to the schools and ask whether they have any suitable candidates?
The cost of the course is a supply and demand thing, people will pay it therefore they can and will charge it. Its a whole heap of dosh but worth it, OAT is the best equipped school i have seen (other than BAe) to get your ATPL with. Come and take a look, ask a few students and get a feel for the place, you are gonna be making a pretty large commitment.

All the best

British Midland send their cadets to OATS. So do Aer Lingus and BA (amongst others).

There may well be financial incentives for them to do so, but they are obviously familiar with and happy with the product.

So. You recruit for a company who sends its cadets to OATS (so you are probably personally familiar with the training, for better or worse). You have CVs from 2 200hr pilots land on your desk, one from Cabair, one from OATS, but all else is equal. Who do you pick?

Next - same question, but your company does NOT send its cadets to OATS, or it does not have any cadet scheme.

Your choice of where to spend your dosh ought probably to be based on your educated/researched answers to those questions, and also on who you intend/expect to be employed by in your first flying job.

No criticisms of any individual school here, I've slagged off OATS just as much as any other similar open prison before!

Good Luck to everyone!

And Aer Lingus and BA and Airtours send cadets to BAE. So what?!?

Do you actually know the people who recruit low time pilots for airlines? Well I do know quite a few and trust me - they place NO special value on OATS training.

I wish OATS the best of luck and have two very good ex-collegue mates instructing there but honestly - if it were me I would save the £10k+ and go elsewhere.
