Good grief. I've never seen a CTC thread run this long without a slagging ever!! . .. .Anyway, just to answer the most common question ....Dosh. I went through the CTC (or ATP as it then was) scheme a couple of years ago. I have been flying RHS medium jets for 2 and a bit years now through them. What you get paid is upto the airline which takes you. Generally its a minimum of £600 per month (or it was 2 years ago) plus any flight allowances normally paid. However, my 'sponsor' company didn't arse about with that (and quite a few think like my company does). They took me on on full pay from day one.. .. .Also...what no one has mentioned...maybe cos its a secret I don't know. Your training does not finish on placement. CTC keep a close eye on you for 6 months, and require regular updates on your progress. At the end of each year, all CTC 'cadets' who have been placed in that year get invited back for an all paid for slap up dinner (even the hotel is included). And the 3 cadets who did the best get a wedge of dosh as a prize (I think it was £12k for the first prize and a little bit less for the next two).. .. .Anyway. I am over 2 years into my job. I started flying RHS in a jet with 250 hours. I just unfroze my ATPL recently, and in 1600 hrs of flying I have 1300 hours on jets.. .. .And yep, I do need to see a plastic surgeon to get the grin removed from my face.. .. . <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" />

The CTC scheme is good. I don't know anyone from either end of the industry that has a bad word to say about it.. .. .I never applied myself but would commend it to anyone who can.. .. .WWW

I know that CTC have been bonded to EJ to take 2 pilots a month for the next 3-4 years minimum, and have been since the start of this year!

Well done that man, and may I also blow sunshine up the proverbial of CTC (stood for Chief Training Captain apparently, now Crew Training Centre - and that's from the horses mouth, JW).. .. .My experience of the scheme was prior to the AQC. I did my MCC there in Jan 2001 (when Cabair used to contract them), and then applied for the ATP scheme during my course. Went through the various tests, in the pool for 3 days and then started a 757 course for Air2bob. I was paid an allowance of 800 quid by CTC, plus my flight pay on top made that up to around 1100 quid. There was a bond, but only if you left prior to the six months or didn't take the offer of a pemanent job from the airline at the end of the period. I was surplus to requirements at the end of my detail (thanks to Osama and buddies), but had 450hrs on a jet, and a type rating. I had initially 300hrs from an integrated course.. .. .I can only second what has been said about the people at CTC, all first class and genuinely concerned about your progression and training. After I was laid off they pulled the strings and got me to an eJ recruitment workshop in December. I am mid-way through my line training at the moment, and thoroughly enjoying the orange life.. .. .If you are successful then it is obviously worth it. If this CTC AQC course was done, would it be possible to have it signed off as an IR renewal? Or is that too easy a solution to the renewal problem?!

CTC Scheme
Are CTC still accepting applications for the ATP scheme despite the lack of recruiting that is going on at the moment? If applicants are still being accepted, do they have to spend some time in the hold pool before getting selected?
Also I noticed that you do a MCC course with them, so do you disqualify yourself if you have already done a MCC course? Any info would be appreciated. MG |
I sent them my application almost three weeks ago now - and have not had a reply as yet. Maybe time to give them a call I suspect.

A word of advice. I believe that CTC take every application very seriously, and review all applications before responding to you. This does not happen overnight. In my case, in late 1999 I applied to CTC. I heard nothing for about 6 weeks. I rang. They called back and invited me for assessment. That was due to happen in about 3 weeks. N.B. The next part has changed somewhat (as there was no AQC course back then). I went to selection on a Wednesday. I passed. I had my sim the next day. CTC called me the next morning to say I had passed and that I was in the pool. This was the end of November. I was offered a 757 course with an airline with green tails on January 4th 2000. I still fly for them. My best advice is let things take their course. Don't hack them off at CTC by being too pushy. They have a lot of applications. And I believe they are still placing cadets. Excellent scheme, lovely people. Worth getting on if you can. Good luck. |

Probably not as the courses are done on the fixed base 737 and therefore are multi-pilot. There is talk of CTC doing renewals on it's King Air sim. |
After having completed the Integrated ATPL course, with MCC, at a recognised Flying College, what qualities are CTC looking for? That is, are they only looking at the top few from ATPL courses? Anyone know how their selections are made?

Tosh, I think you will find that a) you don't need to have done an Integrated Course, and b) you don't have to have been "top of the class". You DO need a frozen ATPL, IR, etc. They select the person. The applicants vary hugely in experience, from people straight out of Integrated Courses to those who did the old self improver route and have a thousand + hours.
Check out the CTC website for all the latest info. As for CTC and what it means, I'm sure someone told me it was because it was Chris Clarke's initials. I can't remember what the T is for though, again, sure I was told a while back. |

For those of you who have undergone the CTC course, do you believe it would be more beneficial to spend the money on this course rather than do a Flight Instructor course for slightly less money?

If you apply to CTC and get offered a place on the AQC course, you will most likely get a jet job thru them (if you do not f?ck up your type conversion) within a year. If you apply and do not get in to the AQC course, it will have cost you nothing. It will have given you FREE group tests and interview practice!! If you get an instructor's rating, will it almost guarantee you a jet job inside a year? I have to say I doubt it very much at the minute. FYI, I have just landed back into Manchester on a wet runway, with a nice crosswind. But the sun was beautiful at nightfall, and the 757 (which CTC helped me to get into) is a good girl. It is all about personal opinion, but I think in my case CTC is a rather large winner over trawling around in a 152. I do not mean to sound arrogant, but it is a straight choice. Give it a go. What is the worst that could happen?? A 737 with easyjet :) Only kidding orange folk!! :) Isn't there an expression? "Luck of the Irish......" |
Just to clarify, as someone who left the CTC scheme for another offer.
The AQC course alone will not get you a jet job, there is still a sim ride to take at the end of the course and I know of several guys who've paid out the £6k plus for the AQC course and then failed the sim ride. I think it needs to be clear that getting to the AQC stage does not guarantee success. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed the selection with CTC and was considering doing the AQC until my current gig came about. Worthwhile doing for the interview and exam practice alone. |
