Flight Training in Ukraine (CIS)!

I think it really comes down to what license do you want to have at the end.
I was doing my training in US and my ex flatmate was from Ukraine. There was bunch of other guys as well (few instructors) from post Soviet Union countries.
I did understand that the quality of training in their respective countries isnt that good, and its not the cheapest places to train.
Countries with very few flying schools always try to take advatage of it... I mean the schools itsself, as they know they control the market.
I was told its easy to convert FAA license to local one in post Soviet countries, and theres very few companies that would ask from you to have JAA one, as they not even part of this system.

I guess u are correct.. they are indeed expensive and the the license is just IACO approved and not JAA.

I am getting the feeling that its better to train in US/Canada... cost is much less compared to Europe or Australia and quality is better in most cases.

I was hoping that these Russians will have good flight schools, since they were always good in aviation related stuff... I was also hoping that it could be cheaper like the rest of the courses offered in Ukraine.. like aeronautical engineering and med schools...

Are you aware of any flight schools in ex-soviet countries that offer flight training at a cheaper price compared to western European or US/Canada flight schools?

My advice stay away from those kinds of schools, the cheapest and most afordable is ATP- Airline Transport Professionals. They give you the price that you will pay, and not a cent more. Unlike most of the schools at your local FBO, ATP keeps its word about the price of trainning.

Those schools in Russia might be cheaper, but the flight training quality is poor.

Their millitary flight training is great, but when it comes to civil it just sucks...

No, such general view is not quite right!

Here in Serbia you can get PPL for 5000-5500 Eur. Serbia is JAR state, also you can proceed for your CPL and type ratings here (F100,B737,A320...). After all you can pay for line training with JAT airways (as I remember some 45US$ for block hour on B737). Currently there is many students from India here

Accomodation is very cheap...2-room flat in Belgrade can be rent for 200-350 euros a month. In some airfields inside Serbia they can provide you with room on field. You can pitch a tent or came with your motorhome if you like that kind of accomodation. Food is 100-200 euros per person...Inside Serbia living is more cheaper and without big city stress. Dont want to mention rivers, lakes and mountines. You can go rafting, fishing, drive bicycle and many, many more other things to do...Offcourse this are reasonable prices, you can allways get luxury variants if you like

My opinion is that Ukraine is just slighly better because they have preatier girls... :ok:)

Only one caution, dont give all money in advance...and this is not because here you have tiefs, no, it is connected with world economic crisis...so many companies go down this days...it is the same all over the world.

I take it you are from Russia? I am from Canada and I think it would be a great experience to study in Russia.

You say the problem is the language barrier, but I thought English was mandatory for all CPL pilots, as English is the international language of Aviation?
I gess as long as you speak the language of your destination airport you will be OK.

Do you know any flight schools in Russia that take International students.

Judging by your post Prices are simular to Canada.

I enquired about JAT and some ex-students told me that they are not issuing a JAA CPL :(

They also told me that the school has drastically increased the course fee now. I guess i need to do more homework to clarify all this info....

You can use the benefits of knowing Russian and spare some money, but does the Ukraine is JAR - country?

Let me suggest to take a look at Pilot School | Pilot Training | Pilot Learning | Flight school | Flight Learning. Latvian flight training school. They provide the training in English and Russian. And you can get the JAA ATPL
(A) with IFR,MEP for as low as 25.000Eur( from zero to ATPL). If you are a good student, then this whole way to ATPL won't take more than one year.

Quality - education is probably better in Latvia, than in Ukraine; weather - better in Ukraine.

NO, offcourse Serbia is JAR country, check Direktorat civilnog vazduhoplovstva Republike Srbije

If you go in Vrsac in JAT flight academy maybe you will pay slightly more money, but if you stay on grass fields accross Serbia (Lisiciji Jarak near Belgrade, Valjevo and so on...) you will pay money I already wrote...

ps and almost to forgot we have better roads...much better then Ukraine ;)

For comjet: I am currently doing my JAA CPL/IR/MEP/MCC in the Flight school in Chisinau (180 km from Odessa) after having got my JAA PPL in 2008 also here. To pass the course from zero it will cost you about 32000 euro and in the end you will have 200 hours including about 50 hours FNPT. They do initial training in a NARP1 (you should know this plane) and then about 100 hours in a DA-42. Flights are performed from Chisinau International airport (LUKK). Weak point here is that they have just started training for CPL and as in every beginning there are various organizational issues that delay the process. Another point is that there is only one Da-42 now which makes students vulnerable in case of any malfunction or accident.

That's quite competitive by today's standards.

How about (availability and price of) plane hire? I'd rather not cross the whole of Europe and back at my own expense again if I can help it, but I quite like flying in that part of the continent.

Jesus Christ,that's 100 hours ME time in a real aircraft,why would you need that much? :bored: I have always been taught that the purpose of training towards any rating,be it IR or ME class rating,or even TR is to show the required satisfactory level of competence and skills in minimum hours as prescribed by the revelant authorities.Have they been lying to me? :}

for Skyspirit: there is no avgas 100LL in LUKK so far to my knowledge. have no ideas about Ukraine, if you know russian there are some good ukrainan general aviation forums.
for Smirnov Jr.: you are right and this will probably change IF they (FTO) manage to get another suitable SE airplane - the sooner the smarter :).

LH2: there is Cessna 150, 172 and pipers near Belgrade on grass fields so you can call and check about renting (send message if you will need some contacts...) I would expect around 80-100 euros for hour.

Seghei: do you know then how much is Mogas for piston aircrafts (on grass fields maybe...) I heard it is 0,3 - 0,4 euros/lit in Ukraine!?!
