Any approved course is helpful in getting a job. All schools have airline contacts, and I know for a fact that SFT use theirs effectively. They now have good BA contacts, as well as more established contacts with BEA, Chan Ex, Air 2000 etc. With certain schools' poor reputation on the admin side, perhaps they cannot be trusted to actively assist you, though the school's reputation may be some help.

Good evening Send Clowns, sir.

By your profile, I presume you work now for SFT. If this is the case, using your insider knowledge, what is the typical profile for an Intergrated ex-SFT student, say 6 or 12 months down the line?

When I visited OATS, they told me that the 'majority' of their students got jobs with 'recognised'airlines [as oppossed to 'unrecognisable' ones maybe - those without a name or logo or planes??] within a few months of the end of their course.

As an aside, when I contacted BAE Systems, they seemed to be able to send me lots of brochures - 5 of them in total, all identical - but they simply didn't answer any of the specific questions I asked! - not impressed.

 Potato Head: Where did you get the rubbish about WMU not doing any more JAA courses? You been listening to WWW again? WMU have been doing very well with JAA and are awaiting their next couse starting 23 July.
I know this is a rumour network but in this case it is easy to ascertain the facts and not peddle crap

Wee Weasley Welshman 12th Jul 2001 01:24

Well I wish someone would tell me for sure what WMU are doing as regards JAA courses. I hear differing things from people who seem legit over a long time period.

I am eager to know the truth...

Send Clowns I hope you don`t mind I`ve e-mailed you.

martinf 12th Jul 2001 14:28

I thought this was a rumours and news network and hence I was giving what I have heard as true - hence being a rumour.

I never said it was true - hence the

I have heard..
bit of my post. The only way I have heard that is through Pprune but also the CAA are reported to be about to stop the overseas training on integrated courses outside of the JAA countries.

Again just a rumour so don't shoot the messenger .

As an aside I think WMU is a top quality outfit and would love to have gone there with BA. I make no aspersions about the school just what I heard was happening to it. When I met the Instructors they were all top quality people and I have heard othing but praise for it.

Sorry if I offended Cyclops - just shooting the breeze!

I am sorry to have to say, but your souce of information is incorrect. The course who were sent home (after 3.5weeks of starting the course) were offered a full refund. However they have all chosen to take the other option which was offered.

Yes there were only 4 people on the course. Yes the way the whole affair has been handled is appalling. All of the course have decided to stay because although communication within the management is lacking, the quality of the instructors is superb.

The course of 4 will all be back in groundschool on Monday but now in a course of 14.

I hope that is now cleared up.

Scared

My source seemed fairly convinced, and as he was working over there at the time ...

SFT graduates are not as 'typical' as those of other schools, as they have a much broader range of backgrounds and ambitions. However I would still say that of those I have known most seem to get airline jobs between 3 and 12 months of finishing if that is their desire (it is not mine - I have other plans!). SFT are certainly helpful finding graduates jobs.

One friend of mine finished about 3 months ago. Replies from his CV distribution suggested he would get some interviews to start in Autumn, so he started some temporary work. Within two weeks he started a flying job, and a couple of weeks later got a better offer and started with another job.

Brochure information on SFT is available on their website and if you call the phone number there Paula or Liz will answer your questions. They are very helpful and hard-working!

No problem. I'll reply when I have time !

Send Clowns

He might have been working HERE at the time, but I am a member of the course that you are talking about...

So I guess that I would probably know the situation regarding MY course, MY compensation, MY rejoin than perhaps an ex-instructor.

All 4 members of course 15 will have returned by Monday to rejoin with course 16. All were offered the same complete refund deal. None have accepted. I guess that says a lot about the standard of instructor here, even if there wasnt enough of them at the time of our intial join.

I hope this helps...

Scared - drop me an email if you could be so kind - got a wee question to ask...... :)

ronanmilne 13th Jul 2001 19:24

Hello!

I can confirm Scared´s reply, that is exactly what I have heard. I don´t quite know who Sending Clowns´ contact is but it doesn´t seem too reliable. BAE just have a few problems due to their move from Prestwick and I am sure if Management, Instructors and Students cooperate they will easily become one of the best flight training schools around, infact, I have no doubt!
