Wolverhampton Airport Flight Centre NEW DA42

The Flight Centre have just purchased a brand new DA42 Twinstar which will be available for multi engine CPL and IR for a very competitve rate.
Recently did my PPL, CPL & FI there and the place was excellent. Brilliant atmosphere and fantastic instructors. Would recommend them to anyone and everyone!
They offer loads of courses including PPL, IMC, Night, CPL, IR, FIC and MCC
You can contact them on 01384 221456 or have a look at website www.hgfc.co.uk

Hi all,
I have been milling around the threads (and searching! ) but cannot find recent views on The Flight Centre, Wolverhampton Airport.
Looking to do my CPL,IR and probably FI with them, just wondering if anyone has any views, recent experiences etc etc......
Many thanks in advance! :ok:

I am sufficiently impressed that I travel a 260 miles round trip to do my training. It is well worth it. :ok:

pilotpaul 19th Apr 2006 17:57

I did all my training with them and they are excellent.

Your right Chris Caine is a legend!

Kengineer-130 20th Apr 2006 01:57

I have only flown a few hours with them a while ago, but I was nothing but impressed at the quality of service, friendly instructors and tuition, and would highly reccomend them if you are thinking about training in the mids area :ok:

Wee Weasley Welshman 20th Apr 2006 07:10

They've generally had a good reputation for many many years now. Another example of a small unglamorous FTO providing excellent training at prices much keener than those marketed by specialist departments at other FTOs.

Good luck,

WWW

ps ALWAYS, refer to it as Halfpenny Green airfield and NOT Wolverhampton Intergalactic Business Airport or whatever the management desire it to be called these days.

I'm also keen on more thoughts of the flight centre? Any other experiences?

scubawasp 5th May 2006 09:39

Can't speak about The Flight Centre, but I did my CPL and FI with Chris Caine. Superb bloke! Good luck

ravenx 16th May 2006 08:50

incidentally, whatever happened to Chris Caine. I did my CPL and FI with him, thought he was an excellent (but never on time) instructor. Then I heard he had moved to the flight centre (which I thought would have been a downward step for him), then I hear he's not there anymore either.

Anyone know where he's disappeared to ??

Delta Wun-Wun 16th May 2006 09:16

Chris Caine is still at the Flight Centre, infact he is their CFI. Very very experienced Instructor. Spends most of his time CPL/FIC instructing, examines at both.:ok:

ravenx 16th May 2006 09:20

that's strange because someone who used to instruct there recently told me he had left and was now doing some kind of commercial flying job - that's why I asked really - couldn't imagine him doing that.

moggiee 16th May 2006 12:44

He's definitely still here - stood near me eating crisps at the moment!

ravenx 16th May 2006 12:46

You see - how can we trust people when they only give us a fraction of the details then expect us to believe they are representing those in question

What flavour ?

moggiee 16th May 2006 14:58

Ready salted - Walkers - cooked in sunseed oil - 34.5 gramme packet.

Perhaps they got the idea he had left because they didn't realise he has escaped from his dungeon under the tower and moved to the Commercial Building. :E;)

Cutoff 17th May 2006 07:22

I did my MCC with them and I found them thoroughly decent.

scruggs 17th May 2006 14:36

I had a few trial lessons with them, not much to go on but I found them great!

iflyhighinthesky 17th May 2006 18:44

Cheers all! Booked the course with them......Just got to send the cheque, which will be with you shortly Paul!

Cheers

Flight centre, wolverhampton

Anybody done any training with them? Im thinking of doing the CPL there and have spoken to them on the phone. They seem very friendly and helpfull but if anybody has any comments, good or bad, id be very greatfull.

iflyhighinthesky 8th Jan 2007 16:54

Just done CPL,IR with them, wouldn't hesitate recommending them. Got me through first time, so thats saying something in itself!
By all means PM me if you have specific questions.....:ok:

FougaMagister 10th Jan 2007 11:59

I would second that. I dropped by a couple of years ago to enquire about renewing my IR; they found the time to show me around with no notice and did a very reasonable quote, I was offered 20 minutes (free of charge) on their FNPT II before I made up my mind :ok: The practice sim session and IR renewal took place just 2 days later! Very professional outfit.

Good fleet and pass rates; Wolverhampton is quite convenient as a training location.

Cheers

G_STRING 11th Jan 2007 09:44

Have trained with them in the past, and found them to be excellent.
Well done to Malcolm & co, for building up the place to what it is

Edited to say: Has Mike Robbins gone? Heard he had - great guy

He's still available on an ad-hoc basis but is now earning and honest living in engineering.

Hour Builder 11th Jan 2007 11:55

I'm currently doing ATPL theory, and this school is one I'll look at when I am done. I haven't looked into schools a huge amoount yet and will look at their website later, but can anyone give me advice on how much a CPL 25 hr course cost them.

Has anyone been here to convert a FAA SE IR to a JAR Multi IR, if so how many hours did they take? I have a valid MEP class rating.

swervin'mervin 12th Jan 2007 16:54

I completed the MCC with them - great stuff. The stimulator was very stimulating! Tea and coffee included in the price! What more can you ask for!

G_STRING 21st Jan 2007 14:41

Does anybody know if they still do MEP ratings / revalidation on the Seneca. I'd heard it was no longer available, and they were using a Twinstar instead

Can anybody confirm?

BlueRobin 21st Jan 2007 21:22

Their phone number is 01384 221456 :}

No Seneca now but there is a Seminole available if you want to use a conventional twin.

Why not do it on a Twinstar anyway? The MEP will be valid on both "types" then, conventional AND diesel.

IR Renewal

Considering doing my IR renewal at Flight Centre (havn't flown for couple of years never mind IFR!! Gulp!) anyone done this recently on the Twinstar? Any feedback / thoughts? What routes did you fly? Was this recommended by them or could you choose yourself?

Thanks in advance.

BlueRobin 3rd Aug 2007 22:43

Nothing unusual at the Flight Centre, lots of IR revals and a few renewals come through. They should see you through alright.

They also have access to a nicely refurbished and repainted Seminole if you prefer and this costs the same as the TwinStar.

jasonjdr 6th Aug 2007 10:31

Thanks for the reply.

I think I will try the Twinstar as I quite fancy a go, and the Garmin looks like it might be a good help. Presumably they have the Garmin on the sim? (I could call and check I suppose:rolleyes:) In the meantime I am trying to get used to it on FS X.........

Was more interested in what routes were commonly flown from Wolverhampton, i.e. what departure, airways, dest, & divert? Anyone care to share their experiance. Doesn't need to be just revals, let me know if you did initials there aswell.

Many thanks.

BlueRobin 6th Aug 2007 19:39

The sim is an Alsim 200, which has PA34 and PA31 models loaded. It is a procedural trainer in the end so there's not much cop in switching between the two.

For a reval, I guess it will probably be whatever Phil or Malcolm choose.

For the IRT it is what Cpt Clifford at Bristol chooses, which is usually a small handful of fields in the vicinity of Bristol.
