Scale questions
Hello there ...
Having trouble working this out! Can anyone help me please?
A earth distance of 45nm is shown on a chart by a distance of 12 inches. The scale of the chart is:
a)1:27,400
b)1:36,500
c)1:365,000
d)1:274,000
The other question is ...
A chart represents 20 statute miles by 20 centimetres. The scale of the chart is:
a)1:100,000
b)1:161,000
c)1:1,610,000
d)1:1,200,000

45*72960/12
72960 is the number of inces in a NM.. so I would go with d (i got 273600)
The other question is ...
A chart represents 20 statute miles by 20 centimetres. The scale of the chart is:
20SM is about 32km so..
32*1000*100/20 = 160,000 so i would go with b
sm*meters*cm/chart distance.
