Non US Citizen, Alien, Type Ratings above 12,500lbs

Well just asking to see if theres been any progress. Have they actually lifted the ban, and is there anyone out in this category thats done one recently, ie. in the last 6 months.

Any advice appreciated

It's not a total ban. I know several people who have had the restriction waived. THe process varies and requires the hiring company to take the effort to go through verification etc...

yeah, it's really stupid ...
I have a couple of AmericaWest pilots friends who are US permanent residents (green card) and still have to register with the Department of Justice for their Sim Checks but are flying MD80s or B737s for a living ...

Yes it is stupid. Does the Department of Justice have a special branch for these checks, and do they Aviation Knowledgable Staff that handle them. I wonder if they realise that, due to the length of these checks time taken, that an aspiring Non National Pilot outside the US who wants to fly offshore with a US rating (Many companies required FAA outside the US ) and get an FAA Type above 12,500LBS, is put off by this!

By the time all the checks are done and rechecked in some cases its too late and the Job has gone or chance of employment drifted away.

I think alot of people dont realise that an FAA Type Rating is recognised probabaly in too many other countries. So this presents a problem and the US will eventually lose their strangle hold in the Sim Market and only have the domestic MARKET.

Many Americans tend to think the international training market is not worth much I tend and many operators who are now broke would disagree.

Food for though

Its not a ban! There is a list of requirements which you have to meet, if you meet them, then you wont have a problem. If not, then you can expect a very long wait........

I know of a couple of guys who finally got approval to go to LGB for training on a MD90, approval took around a year!

Ok its not a ban! But hey Mutt if your friends went through the process and it took a year. That is absurd, breaching on the total ridiculous. They obviously had their Employer informed on the process and managed ok. For those of us who try to get a Job in a Small window ,may miss out especially if it takes 12months.

How recently did your friends do this?

Are there any Training Organisations I can talk too about Sucsess stories on this Topic, inside a reasonable time frame?

Below are some links you can look at to get more information on training in aircraft over 12,500. Basically a procedure has been in place since March 15 of this year which now should speed up the process. Remember before March there was no way to complete this task so therefore things took so long.

The word is 30-60 days right now from the time you apply. Friend of mine went through in just under 2 months for initial in a BE-1900.

Sheep Guts, they got approved to go to the USA about two weeks ago, at that time they were just starting sim training on an Airbus.

The crazy part about this is that come October they will be able to do the FAA training in their own country with FAA examiners. So the losers in this will be the Long Beach training facility.
