Post atpl ground school

am a french citizen living and working in italy, got my private license other there.am willing to pursue a professionnal carrer therefore must pass atpl exams.Due to personnal reasons( girlfriend is english) i want to attend CAA exams. Is my italian license enough to start a distant course like the one from bristol then sit the exams in england like anyone else there or do i need to convert it to a uk ppl?it also appears that if i start any atpl ground school in one country i cannot do any practical training in other jaa states.Could you confirm that particular point.
thank you.
