The PPL Confuser: "Yay or Nay?"
I have heard mixed responses about the PPL confuser book. Some say that they couldn't be without it, while others say it is a waste of time. Can anyone air their opinions?

The PPL Confuser is handy, you can work through the practical subjects like NAV, and do the mocks for subjects like Law (or learn the questions). Yeah, it will help, no doubt. It'll be well worth it.
By the way, does it still have THAT front cover? Is that a mock up or something? I don't really see the point in putting that sort of thing onto a book for PPLers.

My Confuser is about a year old and came with an amendment, in the form of a photocopied and inserted sheet. The problem was (if I can remember correctly) a total misprint of answers for the Meteorological questions.

Great for revision - do not just learn parrot fashion though. Use the Trevor Thom books to study and the PPL confuser to test yourself.
And yes I also have the version with the incorrect met answers. The correct answers are in th explanation section though.

A must in my opinion!
It is a good source of questions. However, it is best used if the answers are cross checked with a more thorough review of the relevant sections of the Trevor Thom books or equivalent.

I used one for the JAR PPL a couple of years ago, it contained a lot of questions that were in the exam, and made it a lot easier. However I also read the Trevor Thom books, which are excellent.
The confuser only really gives you the answers to the exam, hence personal disipline suggestes you should also read more widely. The exam questions your knowledge for a reason.

In my vast experience (i.e. PPL Law) the Confuser lists questions that reflect the exam much more closely than Mr. Thom. £20 well spent IMHO.
(Oh yes, and any aviation book with 1970s German porn star on the cover has got to be worth buying. That has to be the cheesiest grin in the history of flight).

G SXTY that's because that is all the confuser is, the exam questions. Not a great recommendation for learning safety-critical skills and information.
The Confuser is a great revision aid for passing the exams. However if you use it to pass the exams and did not know enough to have a very good chance of passing anyway then you are a liability in the air, risking the lives of anyone airbourne (a little exaggerated, but you get my drift ). If the choice were mine I would ban it. If you know enough to be a safe pilot in the long term then the exams are not too challenging.
