OK, lets fininsh the Cov thing off ..... how about Coventry Flying School. The training rates aren't the most competitive but if you want to hour build afterwards ..... at 48 quid an hour ....... need I say more?

Welshpool - yes Henri where I used to work - do 50hrs hour building blocks for £2,995 with no landing fees thereafter and you can take the hours as and when you want them over an open ended period on any of the plentiful PA38's.

I always thought that a very good deal.

Good luck,

Lydd, on the south coast, were recently advertising C150's wet at £40 per hour. Presumably this would be some sort of bulk purchase deal.

Gosh - it's getting so that flying is only double the price of anywhere else in the world now, instead of three or four times - the Campaign Against Aviation will have to impose a new tax or something quickly, before people actually start hour building in Britain again!

Check out Leeds Flying School. All their rates seem to be significantly cheaper than those of the other operator at Leeds. Check out that Flyer flight training supplement that just came out.

Cheapest ad-hoc (ie not block bookings) rates I know are £55 hour hire or £72 per hour training (dual) for C150 at Phoenix Flying School at Netherthorpe. Tel: 01909 481802. They have always been the cheapest I know of and I re-checked these rates this morning. Also, at the same airfield, Sheffield Aero Clubs rates are £85 dual, £68.50 for a C152, but they have high membership fees (well over £100). Phoenix dont charge any membership fees.
Why learn down South? Even if you add B&B costs, you should be able to save money.

Sleap, virtually round the corner from Welshpool, works out at around the same price, if you prefer C152s to Traumahawks. It looks like slightly more on paper, but they charge brakes off to brakes on instead of Hobbs time, which on average saves you 5 or 10 minutes per flight, and more if it's somewhere crowded. It's worth checking how time is charged wherever you go; it makes a difference.

Ok so they may not be the cheapest (due to the high Landing Fees at Biggin) in the UK, but Civilair at Biggin Hill are the friendliest. Great place to do your PPL and with the !!!!!!!!!'s (Joe's) Bar next door you can't go wrong.

Is the standard of training OK ?
I am not made of millions and a reasonable hourly rate interests me.
I fly out of Manchester International and I am hoping by rubbing shoulders with Airline pilots maybe this will give me an advantage in the months to come. (You never know when lady luck come`s your way, Knowledge is power etc).

The thing that interests me most is...
How much do they charge for twin ?

Try Moray Flying Club at RAF Kinloss. I think C152 approx £65 per hour dual and PA28 approx £75 per hour dual. Tel 01309 672161 Ext 7361.

Try:

Skyline School of Flying,
Little Gransden,Beds
01767 651950

C150 solo wet at low £40's
PA28 solo wet at £52 ish
C172 at similar.

About another 20 quid an hour for instruction I think.

Nice people and good instructors for PPL stuff.
