Question Why close the Cloudtop thread???

We are seeing a lot of padlocks these days. Some for good, legal and understandable reasons. However, I can’t imagine why the Cloudtop thread was closed and am intrigued!

It looked to contain some worthwhile info on supplier’s ability to deliver, and was on the face of things, pretty innocuous.

On the other hand, threads with IT guys prattling on about their hourly rate remain open

Thumbs up

Placed an order yesterday mid-morning for some kit and a book. The stuff arrived this morning at no extra charge. The book was %40 cheaper than the usual price (Transair,Pilot Warehouse etc).

I'm impressed and will use them again - no I don't work for them !

I just searched for them at yahoo.co.uk, and their site appears straight away. On the first page is a big red notice 'Closing down sale, all stock must go'. Seems they are closing down, despite the site being quite smart and looking like they could have done well.

Any site that advertises it wares on PPRuNe will normally be deleted - because it is NOT allowed. Although this was a mild form of advertising, and offered a bit of help, I decided to let it stay - but locked.

That should answer your question. If another site advertises on PPRuNe and you want to do business, make it quick. It will be removed as soon as we spot it. Unless, of course, they would like to pay like everyone else who advertises on PPRuNe.

Thumbs down

I'm not being funny or anything, but...

People who are just sticking free adverts in stick out a mile anyway, and fair enough, they should be removed because they should be paying Danny for the ads. But, if it's a genuine discussion as to which supplier is the most effective, then it's not like it's taking food out of anybody's mouth or anything.

Wannabes is full of discussions about flight schools - and they're commercial organisations too. The no advert rule is fair enough, but I don't think that particular thread could have been called an 'advert' any more than any other thread on Wannabes.

Hi Pie,

An advert is an advert. That it helps sometimes is a fine line - and I drew that line don't you think?

However, if you or anyone else feels that there is a site that can be of help in any way, feel to say so and e-mail the details to each other but just don't publish the URL.

If we waive the rules for one, I will leave you to imagine what will happen.

Red face

I hardly feel that the prevoius thread was advertising.
It seems likely to me that the owners of Cloudtop were not even aware that their establishment had been mentioned. I started that thread purely to find out about this company from others who might of used it in the past, so that I ( and maybe others) did not throw money away at a dodgy company. As harmless as that.
If you check out their website now, you`ll actually find out that they have in fact closed down - obviously PPRUNE is not the place to advertise.
