Question Flight Training

Fellow Ppruners,

After ten years of cajoling, my brother has finally realised this flying thing's a pretty good life and has decided to grace us with his presence.

I've been out of the UK for several years now so don't know where to send him to start his epic quest.

Any tips/info on flight schools/clubs convenient to the SW London area would be gratefully received.

Cheers,dd.

(sorry if this is the wrong forum, I couldn't find one more suitable)

Red face

Errr, hang on... you mean he's an American (I'm presuming, from your profile) who's coming over here to fly? Is he barmy?

Well, if he really wants to, the thing he needs to do first is get a shed load of cash (about $60,000 should do the trick). Then he can either do an integrated course, or do the modular course.

If he wants to get into training in this country, I suggest he gets hold of Clive Hughes's Guide to Getting a Commercial Pilots Licence. See http://www.ppl-atpl.demon.co.uk/

Best thing he could do is probably to get a PPL in the US first of all, and then convert it to a UK PPL when he gets over here (that might save some money... but a small amount in the big scheme of things).
