Post Minimum Hours for Low Cost Carriers

Having had a look at all the low cost carrier websites I noticed that most require both a type rating and in excess of a minimum of 1000+ hours as their requirements. Are these accurate requirements during good employment times or are these the minimum to expect now that the industry has currently a surplus of experienced pilots. I would also ask if you feel these requirements would be reduced should the industry pick up in the next 1-2 years? I know a few very lucky low hour pilots get employment with these carriers but when can we expect a larger number to be successful with so few hours?. .. .Any thoughts would be appreciated!. . . . [ 25 March 2002, 18:09: Message edited by: Irish Flyer ]
