Post John Standen ex Met PPSC seeking work!

Hi Guys,

Well Spain was nice, after PPSC went t..ts up they reduced the salary by £1500 PA and reduced the free accomodation from 3 months to 3 weeks! I got offered Air Law as my primary subject followed by HP & L then a bit of Met.

Can you imagine me teaching air law with my background...VMC is 5nm but if the wind changes it might be 2nm, in the S hemisphere it could be 200 mtrs, but only in summer! etc. Not my scene

Have applied to Qatar, but am interested in any FTO especially overseas.

Any of you out there who need a crash course in Met for any examination, give me a call.

I am in Bournemouth till the 10th Sept when I give up my house (01425 489469)
Then in Yorkshire (01751 417598)

Those of you who know me will not be surprised to learn that when the BAe management asked if I had any medical problems I said 'Piles', and the reply was 'Thank you for sharing that with us John'!

I got rejected for refusing to teach Air Law and not meeting the BAe corporate image!

However, Blackwell publications contacted me today to ask if I would re-write the Underdown 'Meteorology for Pilots', with an advance on royalties and royalties for life... guess what, I said YES!

Still need a job, but am available for private tuition.

All the best to you all

John Standen
ex Met PPSC.

Thumbs up

I never attended any of your courses John, but I do recall last year at the CAA building, that there were several people falling to their knees, clasping their hands together and chanting your name before they went in for the met exams !!

With that kind of reputation Im sure you wont be kicking up your heels for long.

Best of luck

Nothing doing at my place, unless you're an airworthiness Engineer as well? I could do with one of those.

(We've already got Brian Cosgrove for met, author of "Pilots Weather" who drops in once a week and drives us all up the wall).

John

Check your email, I would be very interested in getting some private tuition from the "Met Guru".

Best of luck post PPSC, a man of your calibre will be inundated with work i'm sure.

Regards

Wink

Have you thought about the Beeb, John, alongside David Braine & Michael Fish? Of course, with your own "style", you would only be able to work nights due to the family-viewing watershed!!!

Best of luck, and thanks for helping me get where I am today.

John,

All I can say is that BAe have missed out on a golden oportunity. I know you're not conventional and have a case of the Farmer Giles, but having had you as my Met instructor earlier this year, the first time pass in both Mets is testimony to your tuition.

Let me add another point that any prospective employers may wish to note. There was at least one person on my course who only chose PPSC because of Johns reputation. This person being ex RAF, he'd have gone to Bristol instead. His words not mine.

As I said, John may not be conventional, but he does get you through the exams and his lectures are highly entertaining too.

John, all the best old chap.

Regards

I had the oppotunity 2 years ago to attend Johns lectures at PPSC for the Nav Group and have to say that his style of teaching is very entertaining AND gets the information through. I can still recall some of his explanations for met theory and still have a chuckle.

Anyone thinking of a brush up cannot go wrong with John.

What's the Bae corporate image anyway, bowler hats, cravats and a walking stick?

Hi All,

Thanks for your comments!

Kiltie, that was a superb suggestion, scatological met after 2100 local!
Polar-stereo,V1rotate, cyclops, cla7r,not to forget SOHCAHTOA and Genghis.

I know the Wee Welshman was one of my past long suffering students, seem to remember a meeting on my route to the terminal one day.

Cyclops, I looked at that page, UGH, I taught you that in a minute, 10,20,30 etc.

Genghis, I guess you are SFT, and yes I know there are no jobs there, likewise Guildhall,
Glasgow and Oxford.

So,at least I can get paid to upgrade Underdown to JAR and have some very easy ways of remembering some of the most horrific questions in the database. Might even make my own video on explaining current JAR questions!

All your nice comments are welcome, who knows
maybe BAe are monitoring this page ang might offer a consultants post for three months.

In the interim, cheques and food parcels can
be sent to me at my Yorkshire address!

Good luck tothose who still are on route and
those down the line, can I have some cheap fags.

John S.

Your comments caused me the biggest laugh for weeks, especially the suggestion I join the Beeb!
