Devil non-flying jobs

Considering that so many of the people who post on this site don't fly, I would be interested to hear what sort of work you actually do. More than this, I would like to know, if it's not too nosey, what line of work you were in when you were training (modulars in particular) and what sort of money you were making. I have v.good academic qualification, but university is not my cup of tea (they don't do flying degrees) and sometimes I think my career earnings will always be limited by this. However I read somewhere else here a suggestion to someone heading down s!*t creek that he take up trucking because the money was good. Has anyone else here been able to afford modular training on a truckers salary? I would be very interested to hear anyones responses, and thanks in advance.
