Post JAA ATPL(A) Theory Exam and CPL Study - a quick question

Just wondering if anyone could clarify this for me, I have been looking around for ages and can't find the answer.. .I am going to do my ATPL theory in the UK -. .. .Does the CPL/IR study have to be completed in the same country as the ATPL ground exams?. .. .or can the CPL/IR training be done in a JAA Approved FTO outside the country of study ie USA . .. .or if it can be done outside the country of theory study, does it have to be a JAA member state ?. .. .THANKS. . . . [ 08 March 2002, 12:19: Message edited by: spitfire747 ]

From my research (and I am ready to be corrected), it would seem that you are required to do the ATPL Theory and CPL/IR in schools approved by the same national aviation authority.. .. .So you can do ATPL theory in the UK and your CPL/IR in a British CAA approved school in the US.. .. .But you can't do ATPL theory in the UK and follow it up with a CPL/IR at a Spanish or German school. (Note that BAe is a British school in Spain, not a Spanish school).

Well I would have thought that as long as all the places you train at are fully approved by the JAA for whatever course you're doing, then it shouldn't be a problem ... otherwise what's the point of JAA at all?. .. .In practice of course, the internal JAA politics thing means it's all pointless anyway. In a nutshell, the UK CAA recognize certain US schools for the issue of JAR licences, but the French and their continental brethren won't recognize JAA licences issued by self same US schools.. .. .If your long term plan is to work in the UK, then as long as you can verify that the UK CAA have approved your school for JAR purposes then it should be no problem chopping and changing between schools. If, however, you want to work in mainland Europe, then don't touch any school outside of Europe (ie in USA / Australia, / South Africa etc) until the whole mess gets sorted out by the European politicians.
