Question Anyone know anything of FTCAFRICA?

Seen this link on Flyer.co.uk for a SA org - www.ftcafrica.com - does anyone know owt about 'em?
Says they do JAA ATPL courses, at good prices (naturally, the Rand being what it is) dont see them on the CAA list but emailing them about that....
Love to do my flying there - so if anyone knows anything about FTCA, please tell!

Thanks

I was there coupla years ago - had a great time and got some amazing flying. Instructors very good, beer + fags cheap, but watch your money with FTC management. Don't pay substantial amounts up front and I would advise against any dealings with FTC's UK representative.

Just my opinion.

They do have approval for JAR CPL and PPL from the UK CAA (FTO approval 285).

I have spoken to a colleague who has trained with them for ICAO licences and he gave satisfactory reports on the instructors and aircraft.

I'm planning to go out in March to do the JAR CPL (SEP) with them.

Agree with Tubbs on this one - did my PPL there.
You might want to find out about the on-site accomodation however as I heard it became non-existant recently..

cheers

FTC Africa

Thanks for the replies lads.
Anyone else can expand on this further?

I got a prompt reply from them, Vicky Buxton works there, CAA examiner. They're doing the ATPL exams for 2,500GBP.
Also quote "We are getting an FNPTII simulator in a few months, which will mean that the only part which has to be done in the UK is the IR 15 hrs and test."
Dont know about a lovely 15-hr IR with tea and biccies but seems like they've most things wrapped up. They're revising their costs ATM but say work on 30,000GBP zero to frozen. Sending me a spreadsheet with the individual items so I can deduct my PPL and so forth from the cost. I'll post the PPL to ATPL price when I get it...

Cheers for the advice - I'll be asking about accomodation. And judging by the amount of people that have been burned by handing over the full amount up front, I'll always and forever be wary of giving training orgs money for more than what I've just done - but a timely reminder nonetheless, which can't be overstated.

15 Hrs IR plus Test...

Ah, I see. They're doing the 55 hours IR by having the 1st 20 single engine IR training with them, and also the 20 hours sim time, leaving the 15 hours MEP and test. Wonder who would do that 15 hours for you in UK without a few costly demo flights first to ensure you knew your stuff SE IR and sim IR wise. Nobody, I'm guessing. All very messy. I'd prefer to have the same instructor all the way thru the Multi IR, which seems to be absolute mustard according to mates who've done it. No reason to make it any harder, seeing as retests are 500GBP a pop anyhow!
