Well done!

FI(R) - not too difficult and a lot cheaper than an IR

IR - total head f**k and very expensive.

I dont think there is an advantage in doing either first, however the aviation market is fairly depressed at the moment and for some months/years to come. So I'd do the FI course first and try and find some work.

cheers

Congratulations on getting the CPL in the bag!

Going by what has happened to many of the guys I know who have got the CPL/IR/MCC in the last 6-12 months, none of them have managed to get jobs flying. Some are stacking shelves or working as security guards. It is pretty depressing out there in the aviation world at the moment. There is not a huge amount of hiring for low hour pilots (unless you are willing to commit to an extra 20k's worth of debt plus lower pay as a pilot and buy a type rating with various LoCo's).

I passed my CPL in May and have decided to wait until the summer to do my IR. Hopefully by that time there will be a clearer picture of what the airlines fortunes and plans will be.

If you have some sort of marketable skill such as in IT, you could try getting some contract work. You never know where it might take you. I am currently working for an airline in the IT department.

The instructor rating may be the best bet, but now that it is deep mid-winter not too sure if there is much demand for instructors. May also be worth bearing in mind that many other people have recently done the same thing trying to find a way of keeping hours up so there may well be an over supply of instructors at the moment.

We will also need to see what happens if/when Gulf War II kicks off. That certainly wont help the civil aviation market much.

Whatever happens, best of luck.
