Question JAA Multi-engine rating.

How long is the JAA multi engine rating valid for? And what are the required hours per year to keep it valid?

Cheers,

EIDW

A MEPL rating is valid for 12 months. Unfortunately, regardless of the number of hours you fly in the 12 months, you still have to pass a test with Class Rating Examiner.

As I understand it you dont have to fly with an examiner. To Keep your class rating valid you must fly at least 10 route sectors. ( route sectors are comprised of at least a take-off, climb and cruise of not less than 15 min followed by a landing as PIC) You will also have to fly a proficiency check with an instructor within the preceeding 3 months of expiry.
You would only have to fly with an examiner if the rating has expired. So you will not have to take a skills test again unless you let it expire.

Check here for full legislation:

BLWD - You misunderstand. The MEP Licensing Proficiency Check is a formal revalidation/renewal test that must be flown with a Class Rating Examiner. The dual flight with instructor applies only to the SEP Class Rating.

Flying 10 route sectors in the 12 months prior to the LPC will exempt you only from Section 3A (En Route Procedures VFR)

Am I correct in thinking that you need 70 PIC minimum to qualify for MEP rating? (Presumably you can start training before the 70 hrs).
