Post starting from scratch!!!

Hi Guys,

I want to start training for the PPL this year in Ireland. There is no JAA-recognised CPL/IR course here, so I have to go elsewhere for that, which is fine. The idea of heading to the States or South Africa is attractive, as well as seeming to make sense money-wise. I have a few questions.

1. Is it possible to get as far as the frozen ATPL stage in one of these countries and convert that to JAA license when I return?

2. Do the JAA require for a certain amount of hours to be flown in the UK/Europe before they will issue your license?

I would greatly appreciate some feedback from those of you in the know. Also any names and addresses of flying schools some of you guys might have attended would be very useful.

Thanks in advance,
WD.
