Post P51 mustang...

does anyone know was the p51 designed in the uk but built in the us due to there not being spare capacity to build in the uk ...is this bulls..t,,cheers..

Wasn't it originally designed after an American Engineer stript a Spitfire and redesigned it in a manner that he felt would improve the Spit.

May also be rubbish but there are a lot of similiarities esp as the Mustang uses the Merlin.

Designed and built in the USA. Later models used Merlin engines due to the original Allisons not delivering what was required for high altitude ops.

Prefer the P51A myself as well as the old razorback Jug.....ssssssexyyy!
