Flying school in Edinburgh

Can anyone recommend a flying school near Edinburgh? I'm looking for somewhere to take a trial lesson (no hours as yet, but I suppose everyone's got to start somewhere!)
I don't have a car, so I guess Edinburgh Airport would be the best bet. It would be nice if their prices were reasonable also - although I bet EDI has large landing fees. The only one I have heard of so far is the Edinburgh Air Centre.
Cheers for any information.

You Could try the Edinburgh Air Centre,
I fly from Aberdeen and I believe they are the same school. My instructors are excellent and I would hope Edinburghs are as well.
You could think about doing a little reading beforehand, just the basics of flight controls or something, so you have a rough idea how the plane works.
That way when you have your first lesson/introduction you will get so much more out of it.
All the best, have fun and let us know how you get on.

Tayside Aviation has three schools in Glenrothes, Perth, & Dundee, quite a few people from Edinburgh train with us.
Yes I do work for them, so I won't insult anyone's intellect by offering a ringing endorsement of my own company. Just to let you know we're here anyway, our website is www.tayviation.co.uk , drop me an email if you want more info.
Cheers

Edinburgh Air Centre no longer do trial flights/ PPL instruction and haven't done for a couple of years now. Try Edinburgh Flying Club in the same building (Business Aviation Centre)- head to the airport and turn right at the Hilton following the signs for the long term car park. Carry on past the car park and at the end of the road you will see two buildings - the Business Aviation Centre is the right of the two.

Thanks for the recommendations all. I have read some of the lessons in MSFS 2000(yes sad I know) - although I don't think for a minute it would teach you how to handle an real aircraft, it seems very good for an approachable introduction to some of the terminology and how the instruments look/react.

Hi there,
I'm in Edinburgh too and have been looking at the schools for quite a while now. There used to be 3 clubs operating from Edinburgh but sadly now there is only 1 which does mean that choice is limited. You can check their website for info and if you want to know more then e-mail me.

Hi guys,
Yes flying in Edinburgh is very restricted, not like it used to be. So...with that in mind I would recommmend checking out Tayside Aviations clubs, the closest one being at Glenrothes where there is a nice viewing area, bar and restaurant! If you fancy seeing something more exciting, go up to Perth or even Dundee..where you can share the air with the Fluffy Duckling.. I mean Suckling..
Happy Flying!

Does that mean Turnhouse Flying Club have disappeared? They seemed like a nice bunch when my ex did her PPL with them back in 1998.
I'm currently on a UAS at Leuchars, but rather bored with very little to do. As a result of that, I'd be interested in any opinions of flying clubs between Dundee and Edinburgh, with a view to using my 115-ish Bulldogs hours to acquire a PPL.
Not terribly sure what's involved in converting to another type in this sort of way, and what the CAA would want me to fly that I haven't already. Any hints and tips?
Emails appreciated.

Woz - did my PPL at Dundee recently, highly recommend them. They do a lot of training for the RAF Cadets, so your UAS habits would be familiar to them I would think. Dundee's a good place to learn, and Tayside are as good as anyone in the business - I didn't realise how well off I was until I moved to England and looked at some of the clubs there.
AA - Turnhouse moved to Cumbernauld and then went t1ts up in a semi-spectacular fashion. THere's a thread here in the archive somehwere.

It's also worth bearing in mind that at EDI you will have to share the main runway with the commercial traffic. This will cost you, as for the circuit training you will either have to orbit frequently for wake turbulence separation or fly elsewhere for the circuits. BRING BACK 26/08 !!!!!
