Post Bristol v. Atlantic

Hi Folks,

I have been reading Pprune for about 2 years now and managed to obtain lots of useful information without ever needing to make a post! However, I now have a specific question that I am hoping that you can help me with.

Having recently completed my JAA ATPL theory exams, I am in the process of deciding which flying school to use for the CPL and IR training. After having visited a number of schools, I have narrowed the choices down to Bristol Flying School and Atlantic Flight Training.

Has anyone had any experience with either of the above schools, good or bad, and would you rate one above the other in terms of the quality of their training?

Thanks,
J

Can't tell U about AFT, but I can tell U why BFC was not on my list : they charge £350 per hour for IR training in their PA34, which is the most expensive rate in the country ! Up to £140 more than other outfits. Is it worth it ?

I have second hand knowledge of Atlantic as one of the Instructors at our Flying club is over there at the moment doing his IR.He says the standard of Instruction is very good.

Bristol Flying Centre's hourly IR rate for the Seneca IS £350.00 per hour ALL INCLUSIVE and takeoff to touchdown only. Please compare like with like.As I have a vested interest, I will of course not comment on the quality of instruction !!

nasib,

I'm sure the instruction @ BFC is of outstanding quality. However I was very happy too with the MEIR instruction I got @ my flight school (as long as U get a 1st time pass, the instruction is good, isn't it?)... & even happier to B charged "only" £250 per hour... ALL INCLUSIVE as well.

Just passed my I.R with B-F-C I think you will find the likes of OATS are more expensive and you also get the benefit of operating out of a reasonably busy airport with proper commercial flights. my I.R cost all in with M.E. class rating £10500 all approach fees included, would reccomend to anybody who refuses to pay the 14 or 15 grand that OATS and the other main dealers want for an I.R. (Cheers Nasib and Lee).
P.S. The examiner is a nice chap too. good luck to Julian Sue and Dave!

Thumbs up

Although I don't have first hand knowledge, I did get the opportunity to have a look around AFT a few weeks back, and to speak to some of the cadet pilots there. From all that I saw, and what the cadets said, I think that it is a very professional outfit, and the quality of instruction is also supposed to be very good. I have heard good reports of AFT from "friends in the business" as well.

I don't know anything about Bristol though, so can't comment on that one.

Well done on passing the exams, and good luck with the CPL/IR training, whereever you choose to do it.

Cool

Nasib, good to see you here. Finishing with the Caravan in a month and on the 75 soon after.
