CAA series 2

Hey everyone.

so ground school hasn’t gone so well and I’ve collected a Few fails. Is it worth “forcing” a series 2 as I know some people at my school have done that when they accepted they’ve run out of sittings or for whatever ever reason. I’ll be doing my second sitting next week so I still have a few more and I’m not quite there yet for my exams. I don’t think I’ll pass unfortunately. Is it worth just calling it quits with series one and see if I can force a series 2 as I do not want to wait for 1.5 years. Or shall I carry on with my series 1. I want to do what’s best for my career and idm the extra work load and cost implications.

I know some airlines have a max number of fails when you apply and I want to keep my options open. I know I screwed up big time, so please don’t tell me that I’m stupid, I know.

What do you mean by "forcing" series 2?

You have six sittings in which you can pass the exams and you're only on the second one so not all is lost. The fact that you've realised this now is a good sign, so you'll hopefully put in more work on the remaining subjects plus the resits. If applying for jobs, would you rather state that you have 2nd series ATPL passes or had several fails during series 1 but worked harder and passed the rest? I feel the latter is more favourable, as at least it'll show perseverance as opposed to giving up which is the easy bit.

I feel if you're struggling in the classroom that's something that you must bring to attention of your instructors.

I know a few people who had series 2 for their exams and were still being accepted by BA and easyJet (The 2 airlines that really care). If you've failed more than 5 exams then I would certainly consider it. A few in my course regretted passing the "last sitting last exam" situation and finishing with a poor average etc. You'll also find your second time round way easier too, so it wont be as bad as you think. I've witnessed too many cadets try and apply to the airlines and then get stopped in their tracks because of the ATPL's so it's worth sitting a series 2 with fewer fails and a better average. Rather than series 1 and X fails and X average.

For the record, this is just my opinion and what I've witnessed when I took my ATPL's at a large ATO 2 years ago.

yeah easy jet is the goal for my first job but I’m not to fussed. My plan is to try my hardest with my sitting atm, I may pass them all. Then if I have a too many fails I’m going to talk to my CTKI and assess my options about a series 2. It shouldn’t take too long for me to do all 13 exams, I may end up finishing about 2 months later then planned with my lil plan. Obvs I’ll take a professionals opinion etc.

For the people at your ATO who did a series 2, did they have to restart ground school? I’d rather self study as I already know the content it’s more about practicing it until it sticks in my head so I think my time will be better spent self studying.
