PPL

Hello, Currently doing my PPL studies. I am a fair way through my exams but still have a couple left. One is Nav. Just wondered when working out crosswind component etc can you bring the graph into the exam? You can use whiz wheels etc so wondered where the line is drawn from anyone’s experience? Cheers

Simples on CRP5 wind side, example below.

Runway 27 (QDM 270)
ATIS wind 240/30 (NB. both directions need to be the same type ie Magnetic).
Using the square bit of CRP5.
1. Align wind direction 240 under True Heading (ignore it says True)
2. Blue grommet on the zero horizontal line
3. Pencil mark down 30 kts of wind
4. Now turn to runway QDM 270
5. Your pencil dot has moved.

The crosswind component is shown to the right (in this case) on the vertical axis of 15 kts. Headwind component is on the horizontal axis of 26 kts.

If you are allowed electronic calculators then you could use Sine for crosswind and Cosine for headwinds.
