end of MPL in favour of ATPL

Do not know if this has been discussed here previously (am new in this training Forum) but do we know the reasons why some large airlines ( e.g. the Lufthansa group ) previously heavily relying on MPL are now switching back to ATPL ?

A few kids in our aeroclub have passed selection for the Lufthansa Group and have received their assignments , it is now all standard ATP training starting in Phoenix . .That said I see on their web site ( just checked) that they will still accept direct entry MPL (A) without operator bonding for Austrian airlines and Eurowings. . But the ab initio training is only for ATPL now it seems , hence my question . The previous kids that went to Lufthansa group were all MPLs.

By ATPL do you mean CPL/IR?
