CPL + MEP (IR+VFR)

Hello,

I am looking for a CPL, MEP (IR+VFR) training. I have a PPL with a night rating and instrument rating. I already have the required hours for the CPL. Since the weather in the middle of Europe is quite bad I am looking for a flight school in Spain or Portugal where the weather is usually better for this part of the training. Can anyone recommend me a school and tell me what you liked and what you didn't like about the school?

Thanks a lot in advance.

How refreshing to see someone who's actually thought about the order they do the modules in. You'll still need to hit 100 PiC for CPL, but with 70 PIC you can go straight into the MEP and MEIR.

Have you looked at FTEJerez? They have the FlightDeck+ package consisting of CPL, MEIR for EUR40600 including accomadation and food on campus. I think if you do the APS MCC with them (add on roughly EUR10000), you get access to their graduates pool. Being a flight school with so many links to airlines, it may be in your favour to pay that premium to have their name on your CV and help with applying to these big airlines. The other modular flight schools in Spain seem to have such mixed reviews so tread carefully; but look at Aerodynamics and Fly-in-Spain. If you're only aiming to start with RyanAir, maybe a cheaper school will be more cost-effective, provided you end up with an APS MCC as that's what they explicitly prefer.

In Portugal, the only big school I know of is SevenAir. They seem quite good. I think they were just offering the CPL MEIR package for EUR30000, but excluding accomadation etc.

In case you want options outside of sunny Iberia:
- UK --> Stapleford Flight Centre in London and ACS in Perth are both very well-reviewed and well-priced.
- Ireland --> AFTA in Cork is also very well-reviewed but a bit pricey with modular compared to their integrated I think
- Poland --> have a look at BartoliniAir in Lodz; also well-reviewed and well-priced. They offer 'RyanAir-mentored' programmes. They said they had a 100% RyanAir succession rate for their RyanAir programme students.
- Italy --> AvioMar in Rome seem alright but honestly quiet expensive for what I believe is an average school in a nice area. Worth looking at nonetheless. Also offer the RyanAir programme.
- Greece --> Global Aviation are quite cheap and have been established for quite a long time in sunny Greece. They offer the CPL MEIR for EUR24500 but I honestly don't know much about them otherwise.

The requirements all vary quite a lot, especially depending on whether you do it entirely modular or if you go for a CPL MEIR [APS MCC] package. Since you already have an instrument rating, ask for a tailored price. Additionally, some airlines only want modular students to have studied at x number of schools i.e. British Airways want modular students to have only studied at up to 3 different schools. It goes without saying to get an EASA license, along with UK CAA if youre from the UK. Make sure you visit each school you shortlist and have a good discussion with the staff and students before laying down any money. I was told to DM students on Instagram by finding them in the school's followers/following list and asking for their opinions. Good luck!
