Pre-course (CPL/IR) recommended reading
Does anyone have recommendations for books to read before starting CPL/IR course? Was looking to buy the Jonathon Shooter pooleys guide but don't know if they are any good as they were published in 2012.

These are some of the documents you need to know and have a good working knowledge. I have lost count of the number of times I have told cadets what they need to read.
UK Regulation (EU) No 965/2012 - Air Operations
Skyway Code
AIP
Pan Ops 8168
Knowledge of these docs is basic essential knowledge so start reading. Good luck.

The Jonathan shooter book is fine, but maybe a bit light.
Would advise to reread your airlaw book (ifr parts) and radio nav+pbn. They use the mentioned documents such as pans 8168 as source material.
Another good reading material which covers radio nav theory is pooleys air pilot manual vol 5.
Pan ops 8168 etc. are not written as learning material, and I wouldn’t bother treating them as such. Look into them if something is unclear or if you need more info.
