Frozen ATP

Hi
anyone knows if US Airlines hire candidate Pilots holding Frozen ATP (FAA written test w/0 FAA check ride ) ? But more than 6000 hs in heavy jets flown overseas. If possible to take FAA check ride during Airline simulator training ?

Yes, but they probably wouldn't call it that.

If you have the hours which you do, your ATP skills test can be combined with your SIC or PIC type rating check ride. So not an issue.

Mardel2122,

There isn't a name for it because the FAA doesn't have anything like a frozen ATPL. Taking the ATP-CTP course and passing the written are merely administrative/procedural steps on the way to an ATPL. The FAA ATPL would be issued after completing the check ride in a simulator. There's probably some training company in the KMIA area where you can take the simulator check ride.

Of course, getting the legal ability to live/work in the USA is the biggest hurdle.

It would be called what it is: A commercial pilot certificate AMEL with instrument rating. The 'frozen' ATPL is a big deal in Europe only because the exams are such a massive hurdle: In the US you could study for a few days and pass the ATP written exam so it's more of a formality. 1500 hours is the big deal over there. If you've got that and a pulse then they'll give you everything else. Except the left seat, obviously.
