Prerequisites for initial type rating? ME-IR?

Hello everyone,

i will be embarking on my first type rating course on the a320 for my airline. I would like to know if you need a valid/current ME-IR to enrol for a type rating programme?

I had a short interaction with the head of training of the company and was informed that you are able to enrol for TR with an expired ME-IR? can anyone please clarify that i am able to go with an expired ME-IR?

FYI i am under the UK CAA and as per my research, they stated in their website that for initial TR you need to 'hold a multi-engine IR(A)' but did not elaborate if you require an active/current ME-IR

If the head of training says it's OK, that's the answer you want. Why are you looking to make things difficult?

From the current version of the retained EU legislation:

Applicants for the issue of the first type rating for a multi-pilot aeroplane shall be student pilots currently undergoing training on an MPL training course or shall, before starting the type rating training course, comply with the following requirements:
(1) have at least 70 hours of flight experience as PIC in aeroplanes;
(2) hold or have held a multi-engine IR(A);
(3) .....

Once again, information on the CAA website is found to be incorrect whilst the actual legislation remains difficult to find and almost impossible to navigate. Dysfunctional is hardly an adequate description of this bunch of numpties.

UK derogation on FCL 625(D) is still in effect- (Reference: Standards Document 14, Version 7).

I emailed the UK CAA to seek confirmation, and they replied in the affirmative.

ME-IR just needs to have been held at some point, and not necessarily current.

Just to clarify on this then, you do not need a current MEIR to do your first type rating?

Correct! Not required legally, though a recruiter/airline may request/require it.
It seems a bit more practical as really how much relevance does flying a light twin have to airline operations & procedures?

Can anybody confirm this?
I am going to start TR this fall, and my ME/IR expires end September. It would be a waste of money and time to revalidate on a light twin, just to find out the TR course would be enough.
