Cool Skeptizizm...

Now come on chaps/chapesses... I joined pprune a few months back as I had heard that it was (potentially) a good source of knowledge and where people could post valid information and get peoples opinions on ideas/experiences. @@ NOW DON'T GET ME WRONG, a majority of what is here I see as good honest information/enquiries/questions - its the other bit! @@

More and more frequently I read threads that start with some honest information that can be backed up, only to see the person who posted it get slapped/slagged off with all the:
"probably some kind of jerk, sits behind his PC with his copy of Penthouse dreaming about flying but couldn't coordinte his joystick and rudder..." or
"Nah it can't be true, I heard such and such ... and this is just bull..."

These are just examples, re-interpretations if you like of things I read here. OK, granted, this is a RUMOUR network; but I don't see that as an excuse for some of the insults/comments people receive and some of the real harsh scepticism. Whenever pprune is mentioned to a training provider, the most common response I have heard is "oh yes, pprune, eerrgghh...."

Lets try and keep the standard high, i.e. good humoured, honest page and try change this image and make WWW and Scroggs proud of this section.

PS: Yes, I will probably get a slapping for this too. But heck I'll just laugh! I'm going to switch on email notification, which in turn messages my phone so if it keeps beeping I'll be pleased.

PPS: Hope the search returns soon...

Thumbs up

I agree with you completely. It would be good to be able to go to sponsorship interviews and say proudly that you use pprune, rather than thinking that you should say that you are aware of it, but don't use it.

Skysoarer,

The Internet is a vast ocean, but you must trawl it with a net of your own design and construction. What you wrest from that ocean will depend entirely on where you trawl and on the design and construction of the net you choose to use.

I too am sometimes disappointed to see the invective and vitriol that passes for comment and discussion but it merely serves to remind me we are all human with every failing and vice known to humanity (and probably a few which are merely suspected).

When the vitriol becomes too corrosive, I simply ignore the posts/thread/forum for a while and things tend to sort themselves out.

Personally, I find Pprune to be one of the most fascinating and potentially beneficial uses of the Internet I can imagine. I hope it continues for many a good year yet. I also take my metaphorical hat off to Danny and his tech-crew for a difficult job superbly done.

fish

I'm inclined to agree with you both; thanks for replying...

As for what the internet is overall ... they just showed Jonny Mnemonic on the telly, what a pile of s****! Interesting in principle, but zero marks. To be honest I'm not sure what I'd like the net to be like if I could choose; I suppose FREE for all would be a start.

Thanks again;
SS
