Question PPL YSBK, after a long break

Hi,

I have what in 2010 was called a GFPT and I think now is a RPL. I haven't flown since 2010.

I was going for my full PPL in 2010 but had an inordinate amount of flight cancellations on the navigation flights due to poor weather or aircraft maintenance. I had a job lined up overseas so I had to stop flight training before I got to PPL. I've been overseas for 8 years. Now I'm back in Sydney.

I have at most 6 week which I can devote full time to flying. However I'm burned from 2010 due to the what seemed like an excessive amount of cancellations (looking up in the sky, blue skies, looking at the weather forecast in Goulburn or wherever, blue skies, looking in the direction of the Blue Mountains, can't see any cloud, flight still cancelled by school).

I'd like to go get my PPL now.

Do you think it is realistic to do this in 6 weeks, from Bankstown?
I'd need to do all of
- retake CASA medical
- refamiliarise myself with basic flying
- read up on everything I've forgotten over 8 years
- complete dual and solo nav flights
- take flight test
- do whatever you need to do with renewing an aircrew ID

I have my logbook, I've done the PPL(A) exam and I have a photocopy of my training notes from the 2009-2010 school.

I did my 2009-2010 flying in a PA-28. Have Googled up Bankstown schools and there are several with PA-28s, but I'm thinking Basair as they seem to be the largest so I'm hoping less cancellations at least due to aircraft non-availability.

Hi,

I'm not sure if the process is the same in Australia, but here in the Uk if you haven't completed your PPL within a said amount of time after your first theory exam, they become invalid and you have to do them again. May be completely different in Australia. Just thought I'd let you know so your aware that it is a possibility.
