Post Choice of UK Flying School for CPL...

I am halfway through my PPL in New Zealand, and am doing the research on where I will eventually take CPL training.

I am from Scotland, but would locate anywhere in the UK for the course - Having said that it would be a bonus to remain in Scotland, so as much info as you can on schools/clubs in Scotland/Northern England would be great.

Also, seperately, what do you feel would be better - to sit the ATPL exams BEFORE or AFTER the CPL course?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Laurie

I have heard many good things about "TayFlight" in Perth.

I thought you had to pass the ATPLs ground exams before you can start the CPL flying course.

As far as locations are concerned I did mine at Redhill. I passed first time and the only downside is the field which is a complete swamp in winter.

Thanks for the replies.

GJB: I have also heard good things said about Tayside. Do they have an internet site? Failing that what are their contact details?

Man formerly known as: I used to live in Redhill before Scotland, and really liked the place - From previous searches on pprune it has been very well recommended.

Would anyone who has been to these schools email me on [email protected]

I know people are tempted to say search the old threads, but it is up-to-date info I am looking for.

Thanks again...

Laurie

Don't confuse "TayFlight" with "Tayside Aviation." Not that there is anything wrong with either - I just know people who have been to TayFlight and they have exceeded their expectations.

I do have contact details, but not at hand - I will email you with the details asap. However, they are based at Perth Aerodrome if that helps.

Good luck!

Copy that GJB!

Thanks for your posting, and I have run a search on both, with good results.

It is interesting that the two of you have recommended schools that were already on my mind. A good sign.

Lastly, a thankyou to www for your email.

Good stuff mate. If anyone would like to add more on CPL schools, this is the place.

Cheers,

Laurie.

Laurie,

The 1st thing to do would be to download the official list of CAA-approved FTOs (31 May 2001 edition), which you find here :

http://www.srg.caa.co.uk/documents/s...provedFTOs.pdf

The FTOs web addresses are also included in this document, check all of them & compare prices, especially IR twin prices, which vary from £210 (Wycombe Air Centre) to £355 (SFT in Bournemouth) per hour !!!

Interesting to note from that list that SFT isn't counted as a full intergrated course
