Hi all,
I have been researching the best possible Modular training route for some time now and would like to clear something up about the IMC and IR.
Q. Do you have to complete the IMC before taking the 650 Hours of Ground school or does the IR cover the IMC when taking this?
Also if anyone has recently taken or is taking their own route to a Full JAA ATPL then please could you advise on schools etc from experience and any interesting other topics you may have come across.
Regards,
B1.

The IMC rating is a UK national rating which is not a pre-requisite for form of JAA training. If you obtain a JAA CPL you can obtain an IMC rating by simply passing the IMC flight test. If you had passed the JAA IR examinations you would not be required to pass the UK IMC written examination.

However, after completing the 25 hour JAR modular course, it is RECOMENDED by the CAA that you undertake a further 5 hours IMC training before attempting the IMC test.
Can't do any harm can it!

The advantage of having an IMC is that at least you can hour build more often in this country. You can still fly in cloud and do approaches in the UK - which is an advantage - and good experience.
It means you can also log instrument time.
