To renew or not to renew
Just a question from those in the hiring market
Is it better to renew ones licence every year
or every second year?
I have heard that when you get hired
by an airline your sim and line training
re-validates your ratings.....so why re-new a licence
now when there is no positive up turn in the market.
Apart from getting rusty which you can brush up on
every 2nd month in a sim is there any person out there
who hires for the airlines and wouldn't employ someone
without a current rating???
Just asking....

I renewed last year and will do the same - if I need to - this year. If you were recruiting and had the choice of someone who's IR/MER was current and someone else who's wasn't all other things being equal who would you take?
Its not that expensive, if you want to you can do it on a sim, that said the if you shop around the aircraft can be just as cheap.

JAR-FCL says you cannot start training for a multi pilot type rating unless you have a current multi engine instrument rating (check JAR-FCL 1.250).
You decide whether you should keep your IR current........
Cheers
