Just to add a bit more the old "to type-rate or not to type-rate" question pops up on a regular basis. i've always been inclined not to, as without the commercial experience it doesn't seem to be worht the expense that might be better spent on an instructors rating etc.
with the level of redundancies that we've seen over the past few months, I think it makes even less sense to. Pilot A has, say a 737 rating with 3000 TT and 1000 on type; pilot B has 300 TT, 1 hour on type; pilot C 1500 TT and an instructors rating.
Obviously pilot A will get any jobs first. Matey with the type rating but only 300 will be sat at home for a year or 2, whilst the other fella, although only flying 152's, well at least his flying, keeping current and doing what he's wanted to do.
