Question Modular ATPL Schools

A blanket question for all those who are doing a modular ATPL course ...... where is the best place to do it???

I'm in the process of putting a business plan together to go to the bank and want the thing to as watertight as possible in the current climate (if anyone has any pointers that would be great). I'm proposing to go to ATA in Coventry then off to carry on the modulars. I want to name the school in my plan so who can recommend where? I don't care where it is as long as its good, reputable and not going to burn an enormous hole in my pocket <img src="eek.gif" border="0">

Anyone's opinion would be great, even the bad ones.

Many good threads on pprune at the moment so no need to elaborate. The flying game is an expensive business, however there are ways of reducing the cost of a fully integrated programme of couse depending on your situation. The main thing is to do your RESEARCH, i.e groundschool options and flying training....again view threads on this. Currently enjoying distance learning course with Bristol GS, using pprune for ideas up till now and no doubt for future reference !

Autofly - research, research . As a guide i got a book for £3.95 from Flyer called "learning to fly" a good guide that lists all schools from ppl , rotary and those that do the whole shebang. It is a good start but you must visit, listen, ask, and as the other guys have said check the threads. There is a great thread "modular wisdom learned the hard way" somewhere in the system.

No brainer: "The Guide to Getting a Commercial Pilot Licence" by Clive Hughes available from Pilot Warehouse, Transair etc.

Thanks for the info guys. At the moment i've got a very keen eye on the fATPL thread which is giving me some valuble info but does anyone have any experience of modular schools, inparticular Leeds Flying School, i'd like to know what you think.

Currently at leeds flying school doing cpl/ir and FI.

The buggas don't sell themselves very well.

Things i have learnt since starting there.

There 55hour IR course is 25 sim 25 twin and 5 single.

The instructors arn't hour builders one is the owner (Tony) and the other is Kevin who is brutally honest but seems to have the knack of knowledge transfer with minimal stress.

They have 2 twins a Cougar and a Duchess. The Duchess has anti ice if that tickles your fancy.. .And touch wood the planes haven't gone tech apart from normal service checks.

While on course solo sim is free as long as the instructors don't need it. Book it at weekends. The sim is also set up for the flight model of the cougar and it is very realistic apart from the seat is too comfy.

They also seem to have a rare ethos of customer satisfaction (dosn't stop Kevin calling you a pillock when you deserve it). And if flights need to be done in the evening or at weekends it has never been put across as a special favour.

On the money side of things they don't expect you to pay up front just keep things in credit so whenever Dylan asks you, throw a card at him and tell him a figure. Which is another point there is only one lad (who is a wannabie) doing admin so you don't feel you are paying to get abused by multiple post menapausal bitches from hell.

Ive praised Leeds Flying School many times and I'll do it again. As stated, this school does not scream from the rooftops to advertise themselves. This is because they do not need to.

The instruction is excellent, plenty of pre and post briefings, flying in all conditions on any day. They flexed around my schedule to accomodate me. Not the other way around. And their prices speak for themselves.

I completed both my CPL and IR with LFS. Say hello to the boys when your there for me.
