Converting Ratings
Hello all, I was wondering what it would take for me to convert my FAA CPL to JAA to make me able to fly in Europe. . . From what I gather here it seems that the FAA liscence is much easier to earn than the European equivilant. This leaves me to ask
1. Because the FAA liscence is easy to get, will it make getting the JAA equivilant very difficult?
2. What is the average price in U.S dollars?

Bit low for the price.
10K for IR. .5K for cpl. .ATPL exams 800. .exam course 2500. .GFT's 1800. .MEP 3K. .Aircraft Hire for GFTs + MEP test 2k. .lic issue 172. .equals 25272 sterling. .which is over 35 000 dollars.

So that makes my 300+ hours useless? I have an EU passport and Commercial Multi CFI/II. .I always wanted to fly in Italy or any other European country. This pretty much means i have to start from scratch doesnt it?

If you have an ICAO CPL you don't need an approved course for the JAR CPL, this will save a couple of grand on your 5000, also if Alto Adige has significant multi-engine time he will not be required to do a full MEP class rating course. Also, where did you get 1800 for GFT's. I only did 2 - CPL and IR this makes 1100 plus 1100 for aircraft hire for about 4 hours.

The intial post didn't state what they had.
GFT are the MEP cpl and IR rounded up with a partial in the IR which is always best to budget for. And as for aircraft hire i worked on 1.5 for MEP and 4 hours for IR and CPL at 350 an hour. remeber caafu can send you anywhere for the tests. Add onto that the nav charges and landing fees.
And i don't think it would save 2 grand on the CPL because the school still needs to covers its costs on acreditation and 5k is cheap for a CPL and will only go up in the future when demand picks up. And i would imagine that if it is cheaper to get a FAA cpl first then do JAR cpl that loop hole will be shut.
And as i said the poster never stated hours in intial post but CAA isn't known for letting people away with the cheap option and i doudt they would take 300hrs as alot.
Still recon that you wouldn't have much change out of 35k if they did convert in the end.
And forgot the medical and RT exams + lic so stick another 600 on for them.
And i haven't even taken into account a MCC course if they want to fly a multi pilot plane.
