To my knowledge - looking in the database - there are 178 of you who have the relevant basic qualifications to apply for our scheme, i.e. proven by the fact that you answered correctly those 10 intro questions.
From that number we are looking to interview 24.
So, and without appearing to be heartless or negative, 154 of you are going to be disappointed and not get to the interview stage. But read on.....
For those 24 who do make it to the interview stage - that's their chance to really sell themselves to us, as well as for us to get our first look at them, as people - we'll be selecting 10.
Those 10 will then be assessed in the simulator. That's their chance to show us their instrument flying skills, CRM, etc.
From there it'll be 5 that are chosen to undertake the B737 type rating course - though this assumes that we can indeed get 5 suitable candidates from those that go through the sim, i.e. the standard required will be necessarily high and we will not be lowering the pole just to fill a quota.
In any event, and certainly as candidates climb higher up the hill (i.e. further to fall), we are looking to provide helpful feedback - which is something that for many of us was woefully lacking when we were going through what you are now.
To this end, I can state that the selection team are working - as I type - on picking those 24 folks for interview.
However, please do remember that we do know what it's like to be in your shoes, because we were all there once as well, i.e Captain PPRuNe, PPRuNe Towers, Hamrah, InFinRetirement (albeit that he personally knew the Wright brothers), Wee Weasily Welshman, me, etc..... and so for us, knowing just what you're all going through makes it all the harder to select those who'll go through to the interview stage.. .Indeed we'd love to offer you all a job, but we have to be realistic. You're all good, you've all got the necessary flying qualifications, but we've got to make some choices - and it's very tough (for us) to make those life changing choices (for you) knowing how much you've all invested, how keen you all are, and how you all want it sooooooo badly !. .But rest assured we're doing our best to be scrupulously fair and to pick wisely.
Accordingly, we'd hope to be initiating responses to some of you tomorrow and onwards.. . . .Once again, we here at PPRuNe HQ wish ALL of you the very best of luck !

Congratulations to the applicants who have been selected to attend the next stage and of course commiserations to the disappointed majority.
Good luck to everyone for the future.
Night shift over.

Well still a DoleBoy but I enjoyed the challenge and in the immortal words I'll be back. Once again many thanks to all involved in the selection. Good luck to all who were successful and I hope the famous five don't forget their fellow Wannabes while their off having adventures.

Bottoms.
Thought I had a chance with this one. Top marks at Oxford (94% av), first to finish, first time IR, MD of medium sized company, recommended to BA, lifetime of IT etc... BUT a bit old and no bashes.
Still, I've just got a job looking after the IT of a small airline - having a lot of fun and who knows...
Good luck to the 24!!

Whilst it is appreciated that many of you will be disappointed please understand that our decisions were not easy. We will provide some general feedback about why we made the selections and why the rest were not accepted some time next week. Watch this space.
It is not a scientific process and everyone that applied met the minimum qualifications. All the clues of what we expect from the successful candidates were in the introduction before you got to the application form. Those of you that have attended one of the PPRuNe seminars will know what we are looking for if you were paying attention to Hamrahs' talks.

So who is going to be the first to step out of the shadows...?
I could not apply, too much airline experience seemingly, but still I am unemployed... <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0">
