Hi u all
I'm flying to the med with 'excel airways'next week, i've never heard of the company before! anyone out there can tell me what they are like? Oh and the usual question, any chance of the jump seat? thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Sabre Airways was formed in 1994 by Goldcrest Avn with help from Air Foyle. Acquisition by Richard Branson/Virgin failed in 1998. 67% stake acquired by Cyprus-based Libra Holidays in 2000 and renamed "Excel Airways".

Missed a flight to Dalaman with them last month, but got out later on a Monarch flight. After a shortened week in Turkey managed to not miss my return passage, although later I wished I did. I met an old friend (is it just me or does everyone meet someone they know whilst thousands of miles away from Blighty)in the departure lounge who was also coming home from his hols. He and his wife had flown out with Excel and were less than impressed. From the start the cabin crew were totally unprofessional and did not have a clue. My missus whos a veggie and had ordered a veggie meal was rather pissed off that she was given some kind of "chicken?" dinner as opposed to her pre ordered meat free meal. When we enquired we were told that there were no veggie meals on the flight. She was then given some free pringles and some cake type thingys. Half an hour later a stewardess came down the aisle with the veggie meal, obviously after the crips and cakes she had no appetite. The flight itself was rather pleasant but the cabin crew were so woefully under trained and seemed to me to be new to the job with no one experienced to oversee them. I hope to god that I never fly with them again as the cabin crew certainly did not excel.

They operate a fleet of 737-800s as well as wet-leasing a few 767-200s from Air Atlanta.

excel airways is a new company but in Turkey we like them very much. It is one of the few airlines that supervisors like to go to. The crew is usually very freindly. I dont know about the service but the planes are not that bad you have more space than some airlines and the seats are made of leather which is a plus. As for the vegi meal that could be a mistake of the groundhandling service in England forgeting to inform the crew of a vegi meal. It is always a good idea to check with somebody before you board the flight. Usually at the check in desk. They should be of help to you. Also dont forget that the passenger might be flying from Turkey back to England but the crew have been on a 3 hour flight with passenger over to Turkey and have only had max. of 30-50min rest by sitting in the plain and are then servicing you flying back to England. Could you serve customers for 7 hours not stop with a smile?

When I flew with Excel the special meal for the inbound flight was orderd by filling a form on the outbound sector , so if you did not fly with Excel on the way out how was this meal ordered ?.
Perhaps the cabin crew did rather well to find your wife a vegi meal at such short notice !.
The one thing that did impress me was the fact that excel are very good with the time keeping and have the best on time record of the charter airlines acording to a report that I saw in the daily mail some weeks back.

there is often people travelling on holiday on this site looking for jumpseats:
Post 11/09 you may as well forget it, I know of no airline which now allows them:even getting a cup of tea requires the interphone and when someone comes out the cockpit it must be guarded .
Before redundancy we had a senior route analysist from our outfit looking to get the jumpseat home:despite having an IATA company ID we still had to ring the Chief pilot to OK it (we had been told card carrying and uniform wearing only )

I currently dispatch excel airways flights @LGW. Most of the crew are cool, they`re the best charter outfit for time-keeping at the airport but they often undercater on flights and people go without. As for j/seats.....some airlines are still doing them....im not going to mention who because they might get in a bit of trouble....ive not had any j/seat pax on excel though!!!!
