Post Thats it Boss - I Quit !!

Well todays the day I jack in my job and commit full time to getting a JAR frozen ATPL. After 2 years of PPL'ing, dreaming, watching thew sky with envy at every passing Aircraft and numerous failed sponsorship interviews i've decided to take the plunge, get the loan and go for it.
Im going to America in september to hour build and then into full time ground school for 6 months to clear the exams out of the way - then the huge loan (yikes) and fingers crossed a CPL/Me/IR.
I have to say im sh*t scared i'll fall flat on my face but if I dont do it now I never will. I feel like a runner at the start of the 400 metre hurdles.

Wish me luck
Teroc

Go for it, Teroc! Like you say, you're not going to get to that RHS sat there in a dead-end job, so good on you!
I intend to do the same this winter so I know how it feels to worry about jumping in at the deep end. Much respect to you!

Thanks for the good wishes. I'll know i'll revisit this thread for inspiration on those dark lonely nights when im studying and wondering what the hell im doing.

Si,
Im doing hour-building with Britannia in Winterhaven as I did my PPL with them 2 years ago and they were great. Im hoping to do groundschool with Air Atlantic in South Africa although im not 100% sure on that and I still have to fully decide which school im going with.
If youre in Florida and you hear an Irish accent over the Radio take cover !!

Can I just say that I really have a lot of respect for people like you who have the guts to quit their job and pursue their dream.

When I went into flying I did it after finishing secondary school; I had to make a new start anyway and there wasn't much to give up.

For you it's different and still you do it. All the best and hope things work out for you.

I quit my job a week ago, to go full time flying career. I've been accepted into the RAF as pilot. Start in August.

Good Luck. Just remember, it takes a lot of balls to do what you're doing, I know I'm currently at around the 250m mark of the 400m hurdles you spoke about!

Keep focussed!

Cool

Teroc Two thing to remember are 1)Always have
a mature and Professional attitude towards your flying thorough checks from the checklist/memory using touch drills this will help later with your CPL/IR Training/Test, try to have some structure to your hour building. 2)Never but NEVER let anyone tell you your not good enough I had a hard time during my CPL training and it was only because of fellow PPruners that I stuck with it, I finished my CPL course thinking I wasn't fit to fly a kite and when I finally did take my Skill Test the examiner was perfectly happy to pass me first time. So now I am about to start the I.R (Gulp) and then hopefully start looking for a job so go out there and give em hell but above all enjoy yourself and remember your not alone out there. BTW I can highly recommend Bristol Groundschool Alex and the crew really are the dogs dangly bits when it comes to the exams.

Regards

Red face

i hope you will find a job because the job market is pretty bad at the moment.
If you can, get the best parachute (other job) you can afford.

Hi there TEROC,

Just a wee bit of advice foe you.. Stick in, work hard, and really enjoy your training. You will never have the experience again, and so try and relax and make the most of it. Even with the groundschool, try and enjoy it.

Don't be afraid of asking "dumb" questions, (I still do; as that is how you learn). After trying to "know it all" for many years, I soon realised that I'd be better to say ..." well I just don't know what the answer is, give me a hand" That approach really helped me with my IR and my interview with my current employer!!
It is very important to enjoy your training as otherwise there is no point in doing it, as flying will soon be your full time job!

All the very best, relax and stick in!

Cheers Flat Erik
