Interesting debate!!!
There is currently an interesting on going debate on Aircrew Notices (Misc) regarding paying for an interview and type rating.
I think that the subject is worthy of debate here as it has far reaching implecations for all of us.
I for one am totally against the idea and believe that to pay for that first break into the right hand seat may ease the pain in the very short term but will create US huge problems in the years to come as the beancounters then continue this underhand tactic into pay, conditions and eventually pensions.

Interesting point but unfortunately I believe there is always going to be somebody who is prepared to pay the cost in the belief that it will be of some advantage to them.....and as long as wannabes have this view then the airlines will carry on using the tactic. Who wouldn't, they're a business at the end of the day, here to make money.

Agreed. I think being charged for the privilege of having your C.V. read is wrong in principle, and speaks volumes about a certain company’s attitude to its workforce. I’d like to believe that the resentment this causes will one day come back and bite them.
Unfortunately, as is the way with human nature, there will always be some who are desperate or naive enough to fall for this sort of scheme – and then complain about it afterwards. (Witness the number of wannabes apparently queuing up to hand over their money for a Malgas lottery ticket).
‘Twas ever so, and always will be.

The thrust of what's happening on the particular thread is there for all to see, however, I think it's worth re-iterating for any wannabees who haven't made the trip over there-
Essentially, the whole deal with companies charging up to £150 - ish for their selection procedure will stop pretty sharply if NOBODY PAYS UP! The problem is, with the market as it is at the moment, it seems to me that most applicants will not be deterred, so the airlines can win in this area...for now.
Would anyone care to disagree?
